Services

Authors and businesses need everything they write to look professional. That’s why hiring a proofreader can be a great investment. For a small fee, a proofreader will find and fix grammatical errors, misspelled words, typos, and other minor mistakes that sometimes slip through during editing.

As an experienced proofreader, I can help you prepare your writing project for publication. My focus is on helping business owners, clean indie authors, and others who are seeking to reach a wide audience. Because of this, I generally will not proofread controversial material or anything that isn’t relatively family-friendly. I will, however, proofread pretty much everything else, from picture book manuscripts to epic fantasy novels to autobiographies to websites.

Here are the two kinds of proofreading that I offer.

1. Standard Proofreading

This service is for projects that have been professionally edited and just need a final proofreading pass.

Pricing

  • Fiction: $10.00 for up to 5,000 words. $1.00 per 500 words after that. A 25,000-word novella will cost $50.00, while a 50,000-word novel will cost $100.00.
  • Non-fiction: $15.00 for up to 5,000 words. $1.50 per 500 words after that. A 25,000-word manuscript will cost $75.00, while a 50,000-word manuscript will cost $150.00.
  • Pricing is determined by rounding up to the next 500, so a 49,650-word book counts as 50,000 words.
  • If you have not worked with me before, you may request a sample of my proofreading. After I proofread a portion of your project, I will let you examine the changes I’ve made, and you will not have to pay anything unless you decide to hire me for the whole project.

2. Proofreading Plus

This service is for projects that may need a small amount of editing in addition to proofreading.

Pricing

  • Fiction: $10.00 for up to 2,500 words. $2.00 per 500 words after that. A 25,000-word novella will cost $100.00, while a 50,000-word novel will cost $200.00.
  • Non-fiction: $15.00 for up to 2,500 words. $3.00 per 500 words after that. A 25,000-word manuscript will cost $150.00, while a 50,000-word manuscript will cost $300.00.

Payment Options

I use PayPal, which accepts most major credit cards. You can also pay with a PayPal account.

How to Send Your Project

You can message me on the Contact page. After we discuss the details of your project, I will ask for the manuscript to be e-mailed as an attachment in .doc or .docx format. You must have a word processor that can read the track changes feature of this file type. However, if you would prefer another method, ask about it when you contact me and I’ll be happy to consider it.

Turnaround Time

Currently, I can proofread projects that are 50,000 words or less in one week.

Please note: My proofreading does not include fact-checking or other separate services, and I am only able to proofread by the standards of American English.
